Bloggers' Open World Awards.

I created BOWA's visual identity and directed its expression across digital, print and the Lisbon event, from the logo to the final on-site experience.

Bloggers' Open World Awards stage and audience

01 / Visual direction

The format was set. Its visual world was mine to create.

The event format had already been scoped, but I joined from the beginning as the designer responsible for its complete visual direction. I designed the BOWA logo and established the overall look and feel.

I carried the identity across the landing page, press wall, programmes, name tags, roll-ups, transparent stickers, glass awards and supporting event graphics. Because we arrived in Lisbon on the event day, the physical materials were produced in Denmark and transported with us for reliable quality control; I then handled on-site art direction and the final visual and installation decisions.

02 / Personalised participation

Participant data became part of the event.

The personalised Polaroids were my concept. I had been experimenting with data merge and saw an opportunity to turn participant information into something more involving than conventional event signage.

For around 40–50 participants, I structured names, blog or Instagram handles, award categories and images, then used an InDesign and Illustrator data-merge workflow to generate the personalised cards efficiently.

03 / The installation

Designed to be discovered.

Rather than presenting the cards as a neat directory, I pinned them in a deliberately irregular, overlapping composition on cork boards covering all four sides of two venue columns. Additional Polaroids were placed on tables.

The arrangement was designed to encourage participants to search for themselves, discover other attendees and photograph the cards. On site, I saw participants finding and photographing their own cards—the installation behaving as intended.

04 / Across the event

The identity moved with the event.

The press wall framed arrivals and photography, name tags carried the identity into individual interactions, and the glass awards gave it a lasting physical form.

Physical awards

A lasting expression of the identity.

I designed the glass award statuettes as part of the same visual system, carrying the BOWA mark into a physical object.

Arrival and interaction

Scaled for the moments around the stage.

The press wall and name tags applied the visual direction to the moments participants encountered throughout the evening.
